Handmade Sustainable Cotton Midi Dress in Vanilla Custard With Upcycled Pure Silk Trim
Handmade sustainable cotton midi dress in vanilla custard. The dress features two distinctive parts, the subtle naturally dyed cotton body and a contrasted multi-coloured 100% silk trim, made from upcycled pure silk yarns. Ethically crafted by artisans using traditional looms and naturally dyed using Myrobalan leaf.
The Tara Midi Dress also features tie-shoulder straps, soft frill detailing and side seam pockets. What we love most about this dress is that no two trims are exactly identical, meaning every dress is unique and truely one of a kind. For the individual that loves to stand out and turn heads!
Our model, Toma, is wearing size XS or UK6. Her measurements are: Height 5'7", Bust 32.5", Waist 24", Hips 35"
The main fabric of The Tara Dress is 100% pure naturally-grown sustainable cotton, produced by Tohsang Cotton Village, a small-scale cotton producer and traditional weaving centre based along the banks of the Mekong River. Tohsang Cotton Village shares the same values as Rare & Fair in working with local communities to help preserve traditional weaving techniques, while improving the quality of local life through additional livelihoods. The Vanilla Custard colour is produced from Myrobalan tree leaf, grown locally and turned in to natural dye using the communities’ traditional skills and knowledge.
The multi-coloured silk trim is produced by the Pha Toomthong Silk group, in Buriram Province, a province famous throughout history for its handwoven pure silks. This group is renowned for its creativity and innovation. The trims they have created for us use 100% silk yarn remnants left over in the looming process that would otherwise be destined for the landfill. The upcycling of these remnants creates an additional income for the women and elders that are the main demographic involved in this project. As a result of this creative reuse technique, each silk trim is unique in style, colour and design. Making your dress one of a kind!
To ensure your item retains its charm and beauty for many years to come, we recommend the following:
Take care to avoid extreme heat and direct sunlight when drying or storing the product as this may cause colour fading and/or shrinkage. We recommend storing the product in a cool, shaded and dry place at all times.
Dry-Clean only. For extra care we recommend gentle dry-clean with hydrocarbon solvents, however, general dry-clean is also possible.
As with all natural/hand dyed products, some colour variation within and between items is normal. Natural/hand dyed products will always bleed slightly when wet, so please follow cleaning instructions carefully.
All fabrics woven by hand may come with small knots, yarn pulls or short pieces of thread – these irregularities do not affect the quality or future durability of the product. We feel these irregularities only add to the uniqueness and individualism of our products.
