Hand-spun Sustainable Cotton Blazer Dress Naturally Dyed Burnt Sienna Brown
The Chloe Blazer Dress is crafted from hand-spun and handwoven sustainable cotton. Unlike machine-spun yarns, the slightly thicker cotton thread creates a slightly uneven, yet beautiful natural texture to the fabric. Hand-dyed by artisans using natural plant-based dye from the Velvet Tamarind Tree, this handmade dress is created with uniqueness and creativity. The multi texture within the fabric, together with the dress’s sleek design, will add a sophisticated edge to your look.
The blazer dress comes with a double layered collar on one side, front pockets and contrasted buttons. It has a comfortable below the knee length, adding effortless style for work or smart casual evening wear. Layer up with a sweater on those cool summer evenings.
Our model, Toma, is wearing size S or UK8. Her measurements are: Height 5'7", Bust 32.5", Waist 24", Hips 35"
The fabric of The Chloe Dress is 100% pure naturally-grown, hand-spun cotton. Produced by Tohsang Cotton Village, a small-scale cotton producer and traditional weaving centre based along the banks of the Mekong River. Tohsang Cotton Village shares the same values as Rare & Fair in working with local communities to help preserve traditional weaving techniques, while improving the quality of local life through additional livelihoods. Along the river, the cotton is grown without fertilisers, chemical pesticides or applied irrigation. As the Mekong river rises during the monsoon season it naturally saturates and fertilises the soil, ready for the cotton to be sown along its banks as the river subsides.
Hand-spun cotton creates a thicker than usual yarn, which adds a slightly uneven, yet beautiful, natural texture to the dress. By purchasing The Chloe Dress, you help support this ancient hand-spinning technique, encouraging pride amongst these skilled artisans by showing them that there is still a market for their traditional slow-paced production methods, even in an ever increasingly fast-paced world. Thank you!
To ensure your item retains its charm and beauty for many years to come, we recommend the following:
Take care to avoid extreme heat and direct sunlight when drying or storing the product as this may cause colour fading and/or shrinkage. We recommend storing the product in a cool, shaded and dry place at all times.
Dry-clean or hand-wash only. For extra care we recommend gentle dry-clean with hydrocarbon solvents, however, general dry-clean is also possible. Hand-wash inside out in cool water. Use gentle/low concentration detergent and avoid bleaches, heavy-duty detergents and stain removers. If using machine hand-wash, use a fine-mesh net for extra protection from snagging. Iron inside out on a medium to high heat or place a thin cloth on top before ironing.
As with all naturally dyed products, some colour variation within and between items is normal. Naturally dyed products will always bleed slightly so please wash with similar colours (for first 2-3 washes it’s recommended to wash separately).
All fabrics woven by hand may come with small knots, yarn pulls or short pieces of thread – these irregularities do not affect the quality or future durability of the product. We feel these irregularities only add to the uniqueness and individualism of our products.
